Get Your Veggie On!

National Vegetarian Week (May 23-29) is well underway! Have any of you been making an effort to buck the beef for a vegetarian meal this week? Whether you are already a vegetarian, considering becoming one, or just interested in a more veggie-rich diet Vegetarian Week is a great time to get out there and try new menu options that you would otherwise brush aside for a carnivorous plate.

Whether you’re craving ethnic foods or have a hankering for pizza, several places in Minneapolis offer vegetarian dishes so delicious you won’t even miss the meat:

  • Hard Times Cafe on the West Bank may appear a little rough around the edges but it offers a fully vegetarian/vegan menu with the best vegetarian breakfast options I’ve ever seen–the vegetarian biscuits and gravy is a must-try!
  • Birchwood Cafe in Seward has something on the menu for everyone. Better yet, all plates are prepared with local, organic, and fair trade ingredients! Sample a Thai Tofu Sandwich or Black Bean Quinoa Burger here.
  • Galactic Pizza in Uptown offers a variety of unique topping combinations available on a regular, vegan, or gluten free crust. They even offer a C.S.A. pizza with seasonal crops –call or stop in to ask for more details.
  • Bombay Bistro downtown has so many vegetarian options to choose from, you’ll want to try them all!

I hope everyone gets a chance to try a vegetarian meal or two this week–Happy Vegging!
