With the summer sun finally shinning, food truck workers are excited to see people out and about enjoying their specialty foods on wheels. Food trucks were a predicted trend this year, and boy, are they ever! Not only do they serve delicious food, but the convenience and the experience make food trucks so enjoyable. As we were beginning to expect cold, rainy days – the heat and sunshine today was so refreshing, adding to the fantastic experience of street food and people watching.
On a whim today, we decided to head downtown for the food truck experience–at 1:15, quickly realizing Smack Shack closed at 1:30. We ran out of the office and cruised around downtown until finally finding parking. Fighting the Twins game traffic, we arrived at 1:35. We ended up snatching the last lobster sandwiches of the day. Our excitement was high at this point, so the lobster sandwiches lasted a whole 3 minutes in our to-go tray. Now, we sit in pain–remembering the delicious roll and wishing we taken maybe 5 minutes to savor it’s goodness.
The Lobster Roll was delicious. The lobster was surprisingly nice and cold, on a toasted buttery bun. The bun wasn’t cut all the way through so it could hold the massive amount of lobster (almost too much for Jessica–a loyal crab lover). The cucumber combination with the tarragon was perfection. The side of seasoned fries added just enough saltiness. We highly recommend stopping by Smack Shack to taste for your self. It’s a perfect lunch for a sunny day with very friendly service.
Other food trucks around downtown area worth trying on your lunch break:
Barrio – South-of-the-border eats including their famous guacamole.
Brother’s Deli – New York style sandwiches with gourmet meat.
Dandelion Kitchen – Local, organic, fresh foods, including homemade sodas.
Simply Steve’s – New this year serving strawberry shortcake sliders.
Turkey-To-Go – Their turkey sandwiches may taste familiar…State Fair ring a bell? They also serve at Target field now as well!
